William Lesch

“Gila Monster on Saguaro Skin Memorial, West Desert, Tucson Mts”. Relief print on very thin copper sheet coated with inkAID White Matte inkjet receptive coating. Fine details were created by first making a plaster relief mold and then shaping the thin copper print around it, resulting in a three dimensional sculpture of paint, pigment, and copper. Direct print on Hand Gilded 90# Watercolor Paper https://blogs.inkaid1.com/2024/04/18/direct-print-on-hand-gilded-90-watercolor-paper/ https://blogs.inkaid1.com/2024/04/18/direct-print-on-hand-gilded-90-watercolor-paper/#respond Thu, 18 Apr 2024 19:20:19 +0000 https://blogs.inkaid1.com/?p=3542

Greta Schnetzler. “The Four Seasons”. Inkjet prints of original photography on hand gilded (gold leaf) 90 lb. watercolor paper coated with inkAID Clear Gloss Type II inkjet receptive coating. To contact Greta visit www.schnetzler.com or email to photography@schnetzler.com.

Greta and Emmanuel Schnetzler’s work can be seen at the exhibit, “Four Squared”, at Arc Gallery Studios, San Francisco, CA from August 26 – October 7, 2023. View the Online Catalog for more information.

Here’s The Workflow Process:

Base substrate is a 90 lb. cold press textured watercolor paper.

Gold leaf sheets are then applied by hand with a brush using a PVA sizing product. The brush strokes are apparent through the gold leaf which adds a painterly quality to the finished work.

Two coats of inkAID Clear Gloss Type II Coating are then applied using a brush.

Printed on an Epson SC-P800 printer using the “Poster Board” setting.

After drying one spray coating of Golden MSA gloss varnish is applied before mounting on a wood panel with 3M Scotch 568 Positionable Mounting Adhesive (PMA).

Mounted pieces are then finished with two coats of Golden MSA varnish, cut 3:1 with Golden MSA Solvent, waiting 48 hours between coats. Curing takes a while but the varnish self-levels nicely and provides a hard, and very glossy, UV Protective finish.
